I
once read of an account that a Christian speaker had in which he was
approached by a couple of ladies who asked him a very
"Un-comfortable" question. He had just got through speaking about
Heaven, and some of the things we will be doing there when the women
approached him. After a brief introductory conversation one of
the women asked shyly... "We were just wondering... will there be
sex in Heaven?..." This was a question birthed from a deeply
personal place. And, the desperation for the answer drove these
single women to ask such a blatantly "Sacreligious" question. I am
sorry to say that had this subject been addressed by Christians
before now there would never had been such statements as "I'd rather
laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints..." and... "Tis
better to rule in Hell than to serve in Heaven..." The problem with the Church
is that it has had no idea where we were truly "Meant" to be. If we
take the account of Eden seriously we would find that instead of
there being a simplistic couple who had no idea that they were
naked, we find a story... a "Reality"... that is completely
different. Herein is the tragedy of
the human condition... we "Remember" Eden. Somewhere... deep in the
uttermost depths of us we vaguely remember what it was to be fully
and passionately alive. And... we look around us... but, what we see
is not what we "Remember". We long for it desperately, but see it
nowhere. We weep and ache for the fulfilling of that deep and
in-expressible desire yet, we have no idea what it is we long for.
So, rather than searching out what it is we truly long for, we adopt
addictions to "Silence" the memory of Eden. And, what is the number
one addiction of this generation?... Sex. The reason these woman
wanted to know if there would be "Sex in Heaven" is simply because
they were sick of Christians acting as if Heaven could be an
enjoyable place when all that brings us joy here in this life is
degraded by Christians. It's because, believers in Christ feel as if
human desire is ugly and tainted, and should be destroyed rather
than made to blossom. It's like C. S. Lewis said... "It isn't that
our desire is 'Too strong' for God... it is that our desire is not
(Strong Enough)." Then he said again in a more blunt way that
Christians "Castrate the gelding, then bids him be fruitful." That
is why people of the world despise any notion of giving themselves
to Christ. They simply don't want to be "Castrated" then told to be
fruitful. It's a very deceptive form of hypocrisy. How can a couple
have children the God-Designed way without passion? It just can't
happen. Human beings were made by God to 'Thrive'... "Be fruitful
and Multiply"... But Christians have the terrible tendency to think
like Abraham's wife Sarah. When God told them that they would
conceive a son together... Sarah questioned God in her heart,
asking... "Can I really have such (Pleasure) with my husband
again?..." Believers wonder the very same thing. We have been
literally Trained to believe that maturity is supposed to extinguish
passion. It's the exact opposite in God's Kingdom. Maturity is
supposed to "Increase" passion, not diminish It. The reason that sex has
become so base and infantile in this generation is because we are
the farthest removed from Eden. This generation bears the
un-enviable distinction of being the most distant generation from
home. Remember the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke chapter 15? He
was given an inheritance. He left and went to a "Far" country. It
was there that he spent all his "Inheritance" on prostitutes and
base sexual ambitions. Notice that it was when he was "Farthest from
Home" that he gave himself entirely to sexual perversion. What is it about Eden that
we desire then? Why must we continually search for that original
Feeling? Why is it that sinners seem to know something that
Christians don't? That we were "Made for Pleasure." As I stated
before... if Eden were as dull as most church services then Adam and
Eve had good reason to sin. But, the tragedy of the fall was never
that it made us "Too Passionate", but that it actually began killing
the Passion we were originally made with. That is why we live in the
most cynical and atheistic generation that has ever been. It is as
God told Adam... "If you eat of the fruit you will die." What makes
this warning so horrible is that it was never supposed to be a
"Momentary" death. Adam lived 930 years "After" the fall. So, what
did God mean? God was actually telling Adam... "Eating the
fruit of the knowledge of good and evil will (Start a Process) of
death." Or, as the original Hebrew asserts... "Dying, you shall
die." This generation lives by a
passion that is near it's death. But, we have grown so accustomed to
it that we think our sexual abandon is all the Heaven we will ever
know. We believe our unbridled passion to be "Too Strong" for God,
and we take pride in that. Yet, we are in fact so "Dull" of Passion
that God said He would have to "Remove your stone hearts and give
you hearts of flesh." In other words,... our passion is nothing more
than stone to God. For all our sexual boasting against Him, He
actually reveals that we don't even "Feel" at all. What makes Eden such a
place of desperate longing is that It's Desire and Passion never
grew dull and hard. We were "Naked and un-ashamed." But, in spite of
God's original plan... if the Perfect Adam and Eve ever walked into
a church building today the congregation would balk with horror.
They would have been arrested on the spot for "Indecent Exposure."
Yet, that is how God originally planned. For us to be "Exposed" to
Him and to each-other. Our sexuality today is nothing but a
death-bed version of it's former Glory in Eden. It's cold and
lifeless. It's stone. It has died in it's endless depths, to become
nothing more than a shallow lust of the flesh. Yet, somehow we...
"Remember from whence we have fallen." We remember in some deep and
unexplored realm of us... Eden. And, we ache and burn, strive and
bleed to go back. We lose our dignity, we lose our families, we
lose... even our very sanity and lives in our pursuit of the ancient
Garden. But, we don't even know what it is we are looking for. That
is the tragedy of the fall. How can we return then to that place
where human sexuality was Deepest, torrentially flowing and fully
Divine? Where there was no shame in nakedness, and no fear of
rejection? How do we go Home, where we originally belonged? Jesus
said... "I am the Door. If you enter
through Me you will be Saved." But, He
also warned that there would be people who would try to "Climb up
some (Other) way" into Eden. Christ made it clear that
He was "The Way..." and that there simply is no other way Home. If
you refuse to go through Christ then you refuse Eden. It's just that
simple. You'll never get in any other way. Why else do you think God
posted Angels and a flaming Sword at the entrance of Eden when
humanity fell? He did so because He would provide "His Own Way" of
bringing us back. We simply were not allowed to stroll back in
any-time we wished. He honors us enough to give us the "Right" to
choose (Our Own Way) and rebel against Him,... so we should in turn
honor Him enough to allow Him the "Right" to choose (His Own Way) of
Saving us. We are hypocrites if we don't. Can you see the satanic
conspiracy? The serpent sought to deceive us "Out" of the Garden.
That's what He did with the first couple. Now that we are out of
Eden, what is satan's next plan?... to "Keep us Out." To keep us out
of Eden with dull and bland religion. To keep us out of Eden with
ignorance of who we truly were. To keep us out of Eden with a dying
passion that he tricks us into believing is the very thing we long
for. No, we don't long for sex... we long to be "Known." That is the
True Mystery of sexuality. We ache to be seen and known by someone
who will never despise what they see and know. But, since human
sexuality has grown so shallow and meaningless in the absence of
Eden, we have adopted the mindset that sex can never be anything but
a temporary and often "Guilty" pleasure. There's no more adventure
of deep and abiding search. There's no more beauty. There's no more
pleasure after the orgasm. All that remains of human sexuality is a
flat two-dimensional, distorted shadow of it's original Flame.
...That is... until Christ came. Thunder Angel- Joel
